Our Grants & Funding Opportunities

Each year the PMC awards around £1 million to inspiring research projects in the field of British art, visual culture and architectural history. From Autumn 2026 our awards will be made through a streamlined programme of grants and funding opportunities, designed to be more flexible and responsive to researchers’ needs, and reflecting our expansive understanding of British art.
Following our previous announcement outlining the changes, we are pleased to share full details of the new structure now. Via the links below you can find the remits, sample application form and full details about each of the grants we will be offering from Autumn onwards:
Grants and Funding Opportunities for Individuals
We have also created a new Funding Focus webpage which gives in-depth guidance about who and what we support, as well as Our Supported Projects & People page, a dedicated area to showcase and celebrate our funded projects.
Our financial support for research is part of our mission to generate ideas and promote the sharing of knowledge about British art to create better understandings of the past, present, and potential futures.
This means that:
- We champion original research that deepens our understanding of British art and its histories, supporting projects that are rigorous in their methodologies and which intend to contribute meaningfully to scholarship.
- We aim to support a wide range of individuals and organisations, recognising that fostering and putting into dialogue different perspectives enriches and develops the field.
- We believe that research thrives through dialogue and shared endeavours. Our funding programme encourages connections, networks and dissemination to help advance knowledge of British art.
Applications for autumn 2026 will open on Monday 3 August 2026 (10am BST) and close Monday 14 September 2026 (11:59pm BST).
Applications for spring 2027 will open on Monday 30 November 2026 (10am GMT) and close Monday 18 January 2027 (11:59pm GMT).
