Presentation of Works by Fathi Hassan Now on View
- 2 June 2026
A new hang of works by artist Fathi Hassan is now on view at the Paul Mellon Centre (PMC).
Extending across the PMC’s spaces, the presentation showcases artworks created by Fathi during a residency at the Sunderland Collection in 2024, in response to its vast array of rare and antique atlases, celestial maps and globes. The resulting mixed-media compositions are richly textured, exploring history, cartography, memory, displacement and colonialism.
The PMC is pleased to offer “Open Hours”, where all its spaces (including those usually closed to the public) will be open to visitors so they can see Fathi Hassan’s artworks.
These hours will be from 2-4pm on the following days:
- 8 June
- 20 July
- 24 August
- 7 September
- 19 October
- 16 November
- 14 December
A series of free public events will accompany the hang, beginning with a talk on the 25 June.
This collaboration between the PMC and the Sunderland Collection is driven by shared interests in the power of research (and artist-based research practices) to create connections between historical objects and contemporary practice, generating better understandings of the past, present and possible futures.
