Yale in London Summer Sessions: Experience British Culture, History and Politics
Did you know you can spend your summer exploring one of the world’s greatest cities, and earning Yale College credit at the same time?
Yale in London Summer Sessions at Paul Mellon Centre (PMC) offer Yale undergraduates a unique opportunity to study with some of the most exciting and innovative thinkers while experiencing all that London has to offer. PMC is based in historic Bloomsbury, in the heart of London, an area with a rich creative, literary and academic heritage. Our interdisciplinary courses explore the arts, culture, history and politics in Britain and through its entangled diasporic and global histories. Previous courses have included London Neighbourhoods: Architecture, Planning, People and Urban Change, British Colonial Collecting and Display and Writing About London. Students will be taught by world-leading academics, writers and thinkers from the UK, as well as members of the Yale faculty.
The programme offers a chance to engage closely with London and the UK’s museums, collections and spaces (both grand and gritty) and learn from leading scholars and professionals through guest talks and site-specific trips.
Along with their courses, students will have regular opportunities to explore different parts of London and the UK. A carefully thought-out programme of social activities introduces students to the ever-changing city through walking tours, concerts, theatre trips and meals out in lesser-known venues. Additionally, there is a residential trip outside of London to allow students to explore another part of the UK in greater depth. Previous trip locations have included the city of Edinburgh, the beaches of St Ives in Cornwall and the Black Mountains of South Wales.
Courses are offered with full Yale credit, and the programme is open to all students who have at least one term remaining and to all majors. If you are in STEM, Yale in London is a great way for you to earn humanities credits while studying abroad.
Please note that there are tuition and housing fees but there is a variety of financial support available. You can find more information about this under our Fees & Funding tab.
